Island House is deeply committed to the right to education for all children in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). For years, United Way has been our charity of choice, focusing on improving literacy and reading skills in local schools and the wider community.

Community & Education: Supporting United Way

As an engaged local employer, Island House supports United Way year-round through the Sponsor a Child Programme, and encourages owners and guests to get involved during their time on the islands.

“Yes I Can Read” Intervention Programme

With 60% of the island’s children reading below the required level, early intervention before Grade 3 (ages 7–8) is crucial. Since 2023, the United WayTurks and Caicos’ “Yes I Can Read” programme has supported morethan 255 children who are performing below grade level to build foundational reading skills.

Island House and founder Grant Noble are actively supporting this effort, which funds Literacy Assistants, After School Tuition, and LiteracySummer Camps.

Take a Moment to Reflect

Time, energy and resources can be in short supply when juggling career, friends, family and daily commitments. An island vacation provides a welcome break from the everyday, giving space to breathe, relax and take stock in beautiful surroundings.

We encourage all visitors to consider how they can impact this vital local initiative, helping the islands’ children achieve meaningful future employment and opportunities through the education, funding and support we often take for granted at home.

How You Can Help

“Pack for Purpose”:

Visitors to TCI can help by bringing children’s books from home, contributingto a growing library and fostering a love of reading among local children.

Inspire a Lifelong Love of Reading

Consider supporting United Way’s impact by donating, sponsoring a child for $330/month to guarantee tutoring, or simply bringing books to donate.

Tax-Efficient Giving:

Lasting Impact

Thanks to support from local businesses, residents and visitors in recent years, United Way TCI now has 3 intervention teachers, 1 literacy assistant, and 7 volunteers working across 3 schools in Long Bay, The Bight, and Five Keys.

Many more children could benefit from this life changing support, please consider how you can help as part of your island escape. Every donation is used efficiently and effectively to ensure maximum impact within the TCI community.
